Intel’s top-of-the-line Extreme Edition CPU for Q1 of 2011 has just be named, dubbed the Core i7 990X, and will obviously be faster than Intel’s current Core i7 980X. The processor will be based on Gulftown, making it a six-core 32nm CPU. The 990X will clock in at 3.46GHz, slightly faster than the 3.33GHz of Intel’s Core i7 980X. The platform packs a 3-channel memory controller and a 130W TDP (Thermal Design Power). Expect to pay a juicy $999 for this processor when it’s released in Q1 next year.
