Apple Closing In On 99 Cent TV Show Rental Deals

Reports are in that Apple is already in advanced talks with News Corp., CBS Corp., and Walt Disney Co. to allow iTunes users to rent shows for 99 cents a pop. If the deal goes through, it would give Apple users access to some of the most-watched shows on TV, greatly increasing the appeal of Apple’s devices, not to mention it’ll help Apple challenge companies like Netflix and Amazon which already offer their own online video services. Episodes will be available on Apple’s service within 24-hours of the show going on air and will even be commercial-free. According to the report, Apple is planning to hold an event in San Francisco come September 7th, two weeks ahead of the start of the new primetime TV season to unveil the service and an updated line of products, which we assume will include iTV.
