DRS readies 10.4-inch ARMOR X10gx rugged tablet

DRS is preparing to roll out its 10.4″ ARMOR X10gx rugged tablet for the masses, where it will come equipped with a magnesium alloy chassis, and is hardy enough to be fully compliant with MIL-STD-810G standards for shock, vibration, and temperature extremes. Not only that, thanks to its IP67 rating, this translates to it being highly resistant – impervious even, to moisture, dust, sand, pollen and mold among others. Underneath the hood, you will find an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 1.2GHz ultra-low voltage processor, 2GB RAM, up to a 160GB solid state drive, twin hot-swappable lithium ion battery packs and Windows 7 Ultimate as the operating system of choice. Its 10.4″ LED backlit display is passable at 1,024 x 768 resolution, but with anti-glare capability built in, you need not worry about squinting when trying to work from a difficult angle.

Connectivity options include 802.11n Wi-Fi, Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth and optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband. Seems to be pretty much the only computer you’ll need at the moment, since it even sports GPS navigation capability to help you get around unfamiliar places. To wrap things up, the X10gx also features three USB ports, an HDMI output, an SD/SDHC memory card reader, a legacy docking connector and an optional handle. Security-freaks will be pleased to know a fingerprint scanner is included, not to mention support for encrypted drives and a Smart Card reader. The entire thingamajic will tip the scales at 4.7-pounds, where it will hit the market from September 15th onwards for a yet undisclosed price point, albeit with a three year limited warranty. Get this only if you are a clumsy person, or work in extremely hazardous environments.
