Foxit Kills Its eSlick eBook Reader

The eBook reader market is increasingly competitive, and now Foxit has announced that it will be dropping its eSlick eBook reader, preferring to focus on licensing the software technology that the device uses to read PDF and ePUB files instead. The reason for killing the hardware was apparently so the company will not have to compete with its existing partners. Such a move might be a sound one, as the eSlick was priced at $199, which was initially an affordable device, but considering that Amazon’s latest Kindle can be purchased for $189 or $139, it’s getting harder and harder to compete in the eBook reader scene, and that’s even without mentioning Apple’s iPad.
