Indonesia denies claims of banning the BlackBerry

Looks like our earlier report sang a different tune, as Indonesia has denied that it is considering banning BlackBerry smartphone services for security reasons. According to Communications ministry spokesman Gatot Dewa Broto, the government did ask RIM to open a data center in that part of the world, but will not push for a ban. This was done so that data traffic will not need to go through Canada. Good stuff for our Indonesian friends then, hopefully the folks at the UAE will be able to see some reason not to impose a ban in that part of the world after all.
