
Reports are in that Intel is closing in on a deal to acquire the wireless unit of Infineon AG, the company which is responsible for the iPhone’s baseband chips and also has technology in Samsung’s popular Galaxy S smartphone. If everything goes according to plan, the $2 billion deal could be sealed by the end of the week, a move which would make Intel instantly competitive in the mobile market. Intel has been pretty busy spending money to acquire companies recently, as you might remember the chip giant recently acquired McAfee for $7.68 billion.
