Microsoft did roll out its emergency patch against the Windows shortcut link, which is also known as the Windows Shell vulnerability. It seems that all “supported” editions of Windows received the patch, where among them would include Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Companies are urged to deploy the update soonest possible in order to prevent computers from criminal attacks that aim to exploit the said .LNK vulnerability. Just how serious is this vulnerability? Well, Microsoft thought it was serious enough to release the patch yesterday instead of taking some time out, rolling it out in eight days’ time for its typical Patch Tuesday.
