Microsoft Windows Phone 7 touts killer speech-recognition software

If there is a strength in the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system that is coming up real soon, then it lies in its voice control capability thanks to killer speech-recognition software – or at least that is what Microsoft claims. It seems that the company will leverage its TellMe purchase to include voice controls for items such as search, navigation and dialing. Excellent voice software could change the way people view phones if it works as promised, but it will take an impressive effort since not everyone is a native English language speaker, and what happens when you throw in a myriad of accents into the mix for the same language? Definitely not an easy task, but if it can be pulled off, hats off to Microsoft for great implementation. Should Microsoft take the lead in this area, expect to see everyone else scramble to follow.
