New Prosthesis To Ease Phantom Limb Pain

Despite the advancement of prosthetic technology, many folks are still experiencing phantom limb sensation, which is pain or discomfort of some form attributed by the brain to a limb that has been lost, though the reason behind it is still unclear. Researchers over in Germany have come up with a prosthesis that uses sensors and a stimulation unit to send feedback from the patient’s artificial hand back to the brain, which offers some relief to the individual. Thus far the method has seen some success, but there is still quite a bit of work to be done to determine if it will be helpful to all wearers of artificial limbs.
