Speculation was going around that Apple/AT&T would stop selling the iPhone 4 without contract, thanks to Apple’s site claiming that you wouldn’t be able to purchase an iPhone sans an AT&T contract. When it was launched, the iPhone 4 was offered at $599 and $699 for the 16GB and 32GB versions without a carrier contract. Apple has apparently clarified the situation stating that you’re still able to purchase the iPhone 4 without commitments, just that you’ll have to purchase it from a store, not online. If you were panicking at the thought of being tied to a contract in order to get your hands on an iPhone 4, hopefully this bit of news will calm you down.
