Toshiba Launches High-brightness LED Street Lamps

The folks over at Toshiba seem to be working on all sorts of cool technology nowadays, and next up Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corp has released two types of LED street lamps that are as bright as street lamps using a 400W mercury amp or a 180W high-pressure sodium lamp. These new street lamps are part of the company’s E-Core series of LED lamps, and offer an average road luminance of 1.0cd/m2 with an average power consumption of 122W using a 200V input, which the company expects to drastically reduce power consumption during usage. The brightness of these LED street lamps can be adjusted by several steps, and the light source is rated for about 60,000 hours, which is about five times longer than a mercury lamp. When the LED module of the lamp breaks down, it’s still able to continue emitting light by using one of its two power lines.
