Western Digital has unveiled its new Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit, which is a networking device that relies on the electrical outlets in your home to provide network and Internet connectivity. Unlike some powerline devices out there that use large adapter boxes, the Livewire uses a power cable to connect the Livewire box to the power outlet, ensuring that nearby power sockets aren’t obstructed by it. Plug one Livewire adapter into your router, the other into a room where you want network access, and you’ve got your networking more or less done without having to fiddle with messy cables. Western Digital claims that the Livewire is capable of offering transfer speeds of 200 Mbps and is already available for $140, along with a one-year limited warranty.
