Yahoo! Search Transition to Bing Now Complete, Advertising Integration Next

Yahoo has now completed its transition of its Internet search to Microsoft’s Bing search engine, a deal that was announced earlier and is now accomplished. According to the companies, Yahoo!’s search on mobile and the desktop is now being powered by Microsoft’s search engine. The two firms have lagged behind Google’s search and advertising in recent years and the partnership with combined market share should help both firms ramp up market share to hopefully tackle the more lucrative online advertising market that’s been dominated by Mountain View, California, Google.

Yahoo! says in a blog statement, “The transition of organic search between Yahoo and Microsoft is complete.” After the transition, the combined market share of Yahoo! and Microsoft is 28% of the search market while Google still reigns with 66%.

The companies are now testing shifting Yahoo! advertising services over to the Microsoft ad platform. Integrated advertising is expected by the holidays, though that may be delayed to early next year if needed to ensure a smooth transition.

According to Microsoft, “We are happy to report the transition has gone smoothly and we feel great about the progress our search alliance has been making over the summer.
