ARM Pushes Mobile Processors To 2.5GHz

ARM has announced a new Cortex A15 MPCore processor that will allow devices to run at speeds up to 2.5GHz. It’s designed to be used in tablet, large-screen portable devices, not to mention mobile phones. It’s claimed that this processor is capable of pumping out five times the performance of today’s smartphone processors without affecting battery consumption. The improved numeric crunching ability will offer better functionality for 3D navigation, augmented reality, high speed internet connections and HD video recording.

ARM: ARM usually refers to the company ARM holdings, which is now famous for being behind the processor designs of the large majority (some say 98%) of the smartphones in the world. The ARM Architecture is a set of instructions based on the idea of RISC (reduced instruction set computer) which says that reducing the number of instructions to the most basic enables faster execution of each instruction. ARM Licenses the instruction set or complete processor design to its clients, which includes Nvidia, Qualcomm, Marvell, Freescale, TI, ST-Ericsson and many others.
