Belgian Research Lab Creates Solar Cells With An Efficiency Of Over 19 Percent

Solar-technology has taken another step forward as the Belgian research lab IMEC has unveiled several large-area silicon solar cells with a conversion efficiency of more than 19 percent. They came up with two types of cells with silver screen-printed contacts and plated copper contacts where the efficiencies of the screen-printed contacts were up to 19.1 percent while the copper plated contacts were able to hit 19.4 percent efficiency. We’re still waiting for solar technology to become more common in our everyday gadgets, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
