Every time we pass through a turnstile in the train station or in a shopping mall, we’re using a bit of energy, and now the VIVA Design Team at the Guangdong University of Technology in China has come up with an idea to harness that wasted energy. The Green Pass Turnstile design combines the functions of a normal turnstile with a renewable energy generator, harnessing the energy produced when people pass through the turnstile. The stored energy will then be used to power the turnstile for swiping cards, inserting coins, tickets and counting the number of people etc.
