LightSquared to launch LTE network in 9 different markets next year

LightSquared is a company with big ambition – they intend to go up against every operator in the US by delivering an LTE network which will rely on the MVNO business model, with the intention of executing this plan in 9 markets next year. Before the year is over, however, LightSquared would have had 300 cell towers up if all goes well, and the next year will see another 5,000 being erected, with 2012 ushering in a cool 13,000 cell towers. All 9 markets that will launch next year are located in the midwest, which means major markets including New York and Los Angeles will see LightSquared only by 2012 at the earliest. That might be a wee bit too late since Verizon’s and AT&T’s LTE networks will be up by then. Good luck and godspeed, LightSquared.
