Philips is continuing work in its OLED innovation, this time with an AC-powered OLED panel that can be plugged directly into a home wall socket. The significance of this is that traditional OLED planels using Philip’s technology could eliminate a large power management circuit to switch from DC power. Eliminating this circuitry would make OLED cheaper to manufacture and would require fewer parts. This in turn could lead to greater adoption of the technology, which thus far has been prohibitively costly in large TVs.
