While it wasn’t explicitly mentioned, a Microsoft job listing searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer has sparked speculation that the company could be looking to create a successor to the Zune HD. The position will be under the phone division, but the candidate will be working with the Portable Entertainment Group to build “cutting edge mobile devices”. Of course, there is also speculation of a Microsoft-influenced smartphone design or perhaps a portable Xbox gaming console, but at this point, a Zune HD 2 would probably seem more plausible.
