Samsung’s Facebook game: Thr!veOn

It seems that virtual rewards are the in thing for today’s Facebooking generation- just take a look at apps like Foursquare- simply going to a place and checking-in lets you earn your medals and become a ‘mayor’ of a location. Even simple games like Farmville posts your achievements on your wall for everyone to see. Everybody wants to be good at something just to show off to all their friends. Enter Thr!veOn – Samsung’s latest leap into the foray of online achievement hunting. Thr!veOn is a game for Facebook which rewards its players for sharing different sorts of content on their Facebook page. The more photos, videos, and status updates you share, the more points you get. The more points you get, the more medals you can unlock to earn a top spot on the leaderboard. Besides just rewarding you for sharing, Thr!veOn puts everything you share in a snazzy looking interface, which looks much more interesting and futuristic than the conventional Facebook page, and can be viewed according to a timeline. One will wonder if this game will be the next big thing or will it fail to launch because the objective of this game is pretty brainless- just keep sharing. But then again, if you broke social check-in games down to the same denominator, it seems pretty brainless too. Only time will tell if Thr!veOn is a hit or miss.
