T Mobile G2 Will Not Support Tethering At Launch

There’s a bit of bad news for folks who are looking forward to getting the T-Mobile G2. While not everybody may use this feature, a leaked picture initially claimed that the G2 will not support tethering at launch, a feature that is actually supported in the stock Android 2.2. After the news started making rounds on the Internet, T-Mobile has released a statement to confirm the situation, claiming that there isn’t a tethering rate plan on offer, though it didn’t entirely close the door on such a package being available in the future. Are you still planning to get hold of the T-Mobile G2 despite the lack of Internet tethering? The statement from T-Mobile reads:

“T-Mobile does not currently support handset tethering or offer a tethering rate plan. Though tethering and Wi-Fi sharing will not be initially supported on the T-Mobile G2, we know that consumers are interested in these features and we are working to develop a solution to support them in the future.”
