Verizon Wireless has finally made it official, where the R2-D2 Droid 2 smartphone will be released to the market officially this coming September 30th, albeit only to select stores. Each purchase will net you a custom box that resembles carbonite, not to mention exclusive content that has been pre-loaded into the phone itself such as R2-D2 notification sounds and ringtones, Live wallpapers, a R2-D2 clock widget as well as an exclusive binoculars app. If you are already on contract with Verizon Wireless using an Android-powered device, you can also opt to get the Star Wars Mobile App that will cost you $2.99, bringing a slew of features as with the special edition Droid 2. Expect to fork out $249 for the R2-D2 Droid 2 after a $100 mail-in rebate on a two-year voice and data plan.
