Boffins at the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics (PIRO, South Korea) have come up with a new robot which might just put window washers out of business – the human ones, anyways. This window-cleaning robot is called Windoro, where it will be commercialized next year. Costing around $260,000 after conversion, it comprises of a couple of modules that will hug together on opposite sides of a window thanks to the wonder of neodymium magnets. This magnetic system is touted to be safer and a whole lot more reliable – for example, vacuum power. Other features found in the robot includes distance sensors, attitude adjustment, and obstacle detection. Windoro will work just fine as long as the window it is cleaning is no thicker than 25mm. What happens when it goes about its business in colder climates? Hopefully it is 100% foolproof, as a flaw which results in it plummeting to the bottom could very well be fatal.
