Better Place wins contract to deliver electric taxis to San Francisco

San Francisco has already built up quite a reputation of being the green city, what with a high adoption rate for hybrid vehicles as well as green public transportation. Well, Better Place has just been awarded a contract which will enable it to introduce electric taxis and battery switching stations to the San Francisco Bay area next year. The entire project has a net cost of $6.9 million, taking up to three years to implement fully while adding 61 electric taxis to the roads of SF as well as a quartet of switching stations. These switching stations will be strategically placed in the area between San Jose and San Francisco, where taxis will report to these switching stations for their depleted batteries to be removed, while new ones are installed in place.
