Clearwire announces market launch timing for New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco

Three major cities in the US – New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, will benefit from Clearwire’s latest announcement concerning the commercial launch of Clearwire’s 4G network. New York will be first as those living in the Big Apple will enjoy the next generation data network from November 1st onwards, while those living in Los Angeles can get their fix a month later with folks who reside in the San Francisco Bay Area can hop aboard 4G connectivity in late December – hopefully before Christmas. Apart from that, Clearwire will continue to offer dual-mode 4G/3G USB modems in New York City and Los Angeles in preparation of the launch of commercial service. Other important details such as network size, coverage maps and service options will be available at launch. Just in case you lost count, the Clearwire 4G network is currently commercially available in 56 markets and covers 66 million people, and that is discounting the population in New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco. Food for thought, eh? This will be the same technology that Sprint’s WiMAX runs on, so that ought to give you a better idea on what kind of performance it delivers. [Press Release]
