
Foursquare addicts will probably already know about this, but the geolocation/social check-in service was down for a good nine hours, which undoubtedly caused much stress to its active community. Apparently the downtime was due to the servers being overloaded, and the full engineering team had been called to work on the servers, vowing #NoSleepTillUptime. The good news is that the service is back online, so you can breathe a sigh of relief at the moment, though we’re still waiting to see what the detailed post mortem of the situation will unveil. Despite the good news, it does highlight how wide the impact of the downtime of a social networking site can be.
