Garmin has something for geocaching fans with the introduction of the Garmin chirp. This beacon can be detected by most of Garmin’s outdoor GPS units and is capable of automatically unlocking hints or other details when close by. The owner has full control of the device and is capable of putting a password-lock on the beacon. Other features include the ability to create coordinates for a multi-cache set or check how many users have visited a given chirp unit. Considering that it’s designed to be in the outdoors, it’s capable of running for up to a year on its internal battery and can withstand the trials of the weather. The chirp is already available and should only set you back $23. Video after the jump.
