NetTalk iPhone App Offers Free US/Canada Calls

NetTalk.com, a low-cost VoIP player is currently offering a free app through iTunes that allows iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users to call phone numbers throughout the US and Canada for free, even when using a conference call function. The service can be used when using Wi-Fi, 3G or even EDGE networks without having to eat into your cellular plan minutes. The app itself is free and only requires users to sign up for a free account. The downside is that it cannot receive calls or be assigned a “real” phone number. This probably serves as a teaser to entice customers to purchase the NetTalk Duo, a small VoIP kit that replaces the older, bulkier boxes used by companies like Vonage and connects directly to a router. The free app includes free 411 directory assistance, free conference calling, free tech support and imports contacts from the iPhone’s Contacts app. The company is promising low cost international dialing and automatic linking of NetTalk Duo calls to your smartphone and other services soon.
