Northrop Grumman CaMEL remote controlled robot packs a hefty arsenal

Robots look set to dominate the battlefield in the near future, never mind that clones in Star Wars Episode II trumped the rather static droid army. That’s for a galaxy far, far away, as those of us staying here on earth seem to be heading in the opposite direction – it seems that robots might just be difficult opponents on the battlefield. The CaMEL (Carry-all Mechanized Equipment Landrover) is currently being developed by Northrop Grumman, where it is capable of transport heavy gear of up to 1,200 pounds while plodding about at 7mph or so. Interestingly enough, it seems as though five dozen of these puppies have already made their way to the Israeli military. What you see above sports a .50-caliber M2 machine gun that can be remote controlled through a touch sensitive system. If the M2 isn’t your cup of tea, you can always change it for an M249, the MK19 grenade launcher, or a 30mm cannon – now how’s that for firepower on wheels?
