Tourism London Unveils World's Tallest Solar Tree

The folks over at Tourism London have unveiled the world’s tallest solar-powered tree structure that will be able to generate about 8.6KW of power. It was created in an effort to reduce the amount of grid electricity used at their office and the electricity generated will provide revenue to pay for the project over the life of the contract. It was designed to be a visual landmark to highlight the importance of clean, renewable energy and features three pole mounted arrays of photovoltaic modules. It stands at seven meters tall and sports 27 leaves. The entire project aims to be able to generate a good 10,000KWh of renewable electricity each year, which is about half of what the office consumes annually, and will also help to offset about 10 tons of CO2 per year from coal-fired power plants.
