Google and Yahoo might compete on many fronts, but a new announcement by Flickr is probably a win for consumers and fans of OpenID. It has been confirmed that Google will be the first to partner with Flickr for its introduction of OpenID for new account signups, allowing anybody to sign up for a new Flickr account using their Google account. Existing Flickr users will still be able to use their Yahoo identity to sign in, but opening the doors to Google accounts will make it easy to entice Google users to use the service over Google’s own Picasa Web service. If you haven’t already signed up for Flickr, you might want to give it a try with your Google account.
