LaCie Introduces Its Starck Mobile Drive USB 3.0

LaCie has teamed up with well-known French designer Philippe Starck today to come up with the Starck Mobile USB 3.0 external drive, offering a good looking rounded aluminum shell that is resistant to mild shocks and doubles up as a passive heatsink, keeping the drive cool. The inclusion of a USB 3.0 port means that you’ll be able to enjoy speedy data transfers on USB 3.0 ports and it’s also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports, supporting both Macs and PCs. Owners of this drive also get a year’s worth of cloud backup from LaCie’s Wuala service, offering 10GB of storage space. A Backup Assistant is also available for folks who don’t want to use their computer’s built-in backup solution such as Time Machine. This 500GB drive will set you back $110.
