Wireless streaming without a dedicated media streamer at home isn’t a bad idea and LG’s BD690 has become the first Blu-ray player to get Wi-Fi Direct certification, allowing it to stream direct communication to other Wi-Fi devices without the need for middlemen (or middle-devices). There isn’t any mention of shipping or pricing just yet, but hopefully it won’t take too long to arrive. The BD690 is expected to have features like the LG-BD390, meaning it can stream Netflix, Vudu, and DLNA network content, as well as playing DivX HD 1080p content.
