If you’re a not-so-proud owner of the LG GT540 Optimus simply because it does not yet run on the Android 2.1 Eclair operating system, then it is time to crawl out from your shell. After all, the Android 2.1 update is finally here, and while it isn’t Froyo (Android 2.2), at least it is a whole lot better than Android 1.6, eh? For those who are not in the know, this update will deliver support for multiple accounts, a Quick Contacts interface, HTML5 support, Microsoft Exchange support, Live Wallpapers and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. You will be able to download the update file here for your GT540 if you’re interested, but for those who can wait, you can always be patient until LG rolls out over-the-air firmware changes. After that, it is time to wait for Android 2.2 Froyo – and if history is of any indication, that will arrive only after Android 2.3 Gingerbread is out for a plethora of handsets.
