LG Optimus One Android phone sold a million

LG Electronics has announced that the LG Optimus One sales have hitone million unit (worldwide) in 40 days, which is quite a feat for LG, and a testament to how popular Android handsets have become. If you are not familiar with the LG Optimus one, it came out in October and uses Android 2.2 (codenamed FroYo), a faster version of Android that many handsets have yet to upgrade to.

To put things in context, there were about 20M Android phones sold in the most recent quarter. That’s about 222k per day, or 8.9M in 40days. This would mean that LG has taken a substantial share in the Android handset market. LG has also entered the Windows Phone 7 market with the interesting LG Optimus 7. That’s a nice come back from earlier quarters, where their smartphone share was probably not as high.
