The Nintendo Wii was a hallmark when it comes to motion control for video games, but four years down the road, it is starting to feel the heat from other more accurate competitors such as the PlayStation Move and the Microsoft Kinect. Well, a development team at the University of Abertay Dundee in the UK with computer games technology lecturer Matt Bett at the helm has decided to expand on the idea of a virtual camera by marrying it to a motion controller. There will not be any mapping of a virtual environment to a real-life one at the moment, but the whole idea behind this exercise would be to get the “view” of a motion controller to work in a manner similar to that of a camera, opening up potentially new avenues for video games. Apart from games, this new development might come in handy in the field of computer animation since the motion controller camera enables a lot of film-like effects to be shot. To get a better idea of what we’re talking about, check out the system in action in the video above.
