Amazon has come up with a rather cool patent registration for a gift conversion system. With this in place, you’ll most likely end up with the gift that you want, instead of getting those ugly brown socks from your aunt. The patent describes a system that allows gift recipients to set various parameters for the things they want, with rules on the patent including “convert all gifts from Aunt Mildred,” “no clothes with wool,” and “convert VHS to DVD,” etc. This probably means that if somebody decides to send you a VHS copy of some boring movie you could easily convert it to a DVD that’s more in tune with current technology. Considering the number of brown socks we get every year, this is a rather useful idea.
