The Symbian platform was having some trouble challenging modern platforms such as iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 and now Nokia has taken charge of the situation by revealing that it will be taking control of Symbian itself, meaning that all development will take place under Nokia’s banner, relegating the Symbian Foundation to the task of licensing the Symbian name and other intellectual property tasks. That handover of this will take place by the end of March 2011. Nokia has stressed that it was committed to Symbian and didn’t expect this decision to impact any of its phone releases. This move probably quashes the rumors/dreams of Nokia coming up with an Android-powered phone. Do you think that this is a smart move by Nokia?
