OmniVision Prepares 8-megapixel CMOS Sensor That Might Be Used For Future iPhone

OmniVision has unveiled a new camera sensor, the OV8820, an 8-megapixel sensor that boasts electronic stabilization to minimize shake and can capture images well in low light. The sensor is touted as being capable of recording videos at 1080p/30 or 720p/60 with hardware scaling. The sensor is also capable of processing 8-megapixel shots at 24FPS for continuous still photos if the phone is capable of keeping up with it. Companies will be getting test samples from today and mass production is slated to begin in March. While there wasn’t any mention of specific deals, speculation is that this sensor might be used for a future version of the iPhone since the company has provided sensors for every iPhone model so far.
