Facebook might have over 500 million users and counting, but micro-blogging site Twitter isn’t too far behind, ready to touch the 200 million mark by the time 2011 rolls around. We’re somewhat surprised that the gap isn’t any closer, since most folks we know who have a Facebook account also tweet their experiences throughout the day as well. This year alone, the average growth rate for Twitter stands at hundreds of thousands of users per day, touching the current 175 million mark from just 58 million users last year. With such an extraordinary reach, we do wonder how Twitter intends on monetizing that kind of traffic in due time. It has certainly paved the way for folks to be more precise and concise in their communication thanks to the 140-character per-post limit.
