Amazon Said To Be Working On Streaming Service To Rival Netflix

Subscription-based streaming TV seems to be the trend at the moment and word is going around that Amazon is in the early stages of developing a subscription streaming service that will compete with Netflix. If the rumors are true, the service will be included as a bundle with the company’s Amazon Prime shipping service which costs $79 a year. Amazon Prime offers members free two-day shipping on all Amazon orders and also allows for overnight shipping at $3.99 per item. Would Amazon really put its weight behind the whole movie streaming scene and go head to head with Netflix?

Of course, Netflix is also provides DVD rentals via regular mail, and that is actually how the company took off before becoming the entity that is said to account for 29% of USA download Internet traffic as of March 2011. Netflix is one of the largest customer of Amazon's AWS infrastructure business.
