Home > Home > Cable firms against Hulu Plus on TiVo boxes

This isn’t going to be happy news for consumers who like the Hulu Plus service. While Hulu Plus is available on TiVo Premiere DVRs, it’s confirmed that it will not be available on TiVo devices offered by cable providers, such as those provided by Suddenlink, Cox and RCN, due to licensing issues. Netflix, the streaming service accessible from TiVo DVRs, is unable to stream through a box leased by a cable company due to contractual obligations. Speculation is that cable providers are trying to edge out the competition by leaving Hulu Plus out to prevent customers from subscribing to a cheaper TV package and using Hulu to fill some of the gaps.
