China bans Skype and other non state owned VOIP services

After recovering from a recent worldwide crash, Skype looks like it won’t be recovering in a certain country on the eastside of the world. China has just made all VOIP services, besides those owned by the government, illegal – therefore banning Skype and other similar services in the country. These leaves only two VOIP services legal in the country of over a billion people – China Telecom and China Unicom. As to how those networks will handle the sudden influx of people migrating over, that’s a very good question. Well it looks like VOIP services will have to look elsewhere if they had hopes of tapping into the billion strong Chinese markets. Either that or wait until the government lifts the ban. How many of you are affected by such the recent ruling?
