Chinese Manufacturer Rolls Out Solar-powered Air Conditioner

One of the things that parents always complain about when kids turn on the air conditioning is the spike in the electricity bill. It would be great if we could run the air conditioning units in our homes and not have to worry about the bill. China’s Gree Electric Appliances has come up with the country’s first solar-powered air conditioning system that can send excess electricity to the power grid. The company claims that the system mainly makes use of renewable solar energy and only uses grid electricity when solar power is inadequate. Of course, we’re wondering how much solar power can be gathered by this small unit, since our electricity bills generally show us that it’s not cheap to keep air conditioning units running. The company plans to sell its first 50,000 units in the US, after which the system will be made available for purchase in China.
