E Fun Next3 Android tablet announced

E Fun has just made a statement of intent when it comes to entering the crowding Android tablet market with the Next3 device, parking it right under the wings of its Nextbook brand. The Next3 will sport an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, although we are left scratching our heads as to why Android 2.1 ships with this when Android 2.2 is already commonplace, not to mention Android 2.3 Gingerbread being prepared and ready to roll out anytime now. Regardless, the Next3 is capable of accessing YouTube, browse the web and the Borders eBook store courtesy of its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. No mention of the Android Market was given, so we will have to rely on the goodwill of readers who already picked up the Next3 to know whether they are able to have a go at Angry Birds on it or not. Other hardware specifications include 2GB of internal memory, an SD memory card slot for expansion purposes, built-in speakers and 25 e-books that have been preloaded for your reading pleasure. Shipping this week, the Nextbook Next3 will retail for $230, where it is accompanied by a protective pouch with a magnetic flap. Just how different is this from other Android tablets out there? For starters, there isn’t any built-in digital camera, and you certainly can’t make phone calls with it. Gotta love the generous display size though. [Press Release]
