Now isn’t this some shocking bit of news – using an electric eel to power the lights on your Christmas tree. Well, at least you can tell your mates that this is one of the ways you’re going to go green this Christmas, where all the lights are hooked up to a tank that contains an electric eel. This tree can be found at the Enoshima Aquarium in Japan, where each time the eel begins to swim around, it will generate 800 watts of juice, enough to power the tree’s lights. Imagine having your local power station start to breed eels simply because they are looking forward to an alternative energy source. Now that would be a truly interesting idea, wouldn’t you think so?
