T-Mobile was always having a little trouble promoting its HSPA+ network as a 4G network, often having to tout it as “4G” with the quotation marks. While Sprint and Verizon were busy promoting their WiMAX and LTE networks as 4G technologies, T-Mobile was always questioned if its HSPA+ network was a true 4G network. The good news for the carrier is that the ITU has since recognized that HSPA+ will be considered as a 4G network as it can be applied to evolved 4G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial 3G systems now deployed. Of course, you can bet that the marketing department in T-Mobile is rejoicing at this news, since it should make their job a lot easier.
