Intel says no to Atom processors in smartphones until 2011

Intel chief Paul Otellini recently made known that smartphones which will be powered by their own Atom processors will not debut until next year. Before you jump on your seat and say, “Hey, isn’t 2011 just three weeks away?”, bear in mind that the timeframe given is the second half of next year, so everyone else might just have to wait until one more year in a worse case scenario. The Atom processor in question here is the Z600, where it is still undergoing testing to have all the kinks ironed out before it is officailly launched. We do wonder whether this delay might just affect Intel’s capability of duking it out with ARM in the smartphone processor field.
