We’ve seen various uses for the Kinect sensor since the unofficial drivers were made available to the public, and some of them have been really fun. Of course, there can be practical uses for the Kinect too, as a team from the Georgia Tech College of Computing have used the device to help teach American Sign Language to deaf children. The team was actually working on the game, dubbed CopyCat, even before the Kinect was released, and it relied on accelerometers mounted on gloves. Of course, the release of the Kinect and its skeleton-detecting features allowed them to ditch the gloves and use it instead. Check out a video of this system in action after the jump.
