Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday has hit a new record – they released a grand total of 17 bulletins this Tuesday, addressing up to 40 software security vulnerabilities in total collectively, making it the largest ever Patch Tuesday update. Out of the 40, only two of the patch batch picked up the “Critical” rating, where one of them (MS10-090) addresses five critical flaws in Internet Explorer, where among those have been exploited in hacking attacks. Needless to say, all currently supported versions of IE will require patching. A new kind of CSS vulnerability in Internet Explorer has also crept in, remaining unpatched for the moment. As for the second critical fix (MS10-091), it will zap the bug in font handling, which indirectly poses as a code execution bug on newer versions of Windows and a lesser privilege escalation flaw on Windows XP. Better late than never, we say. What do you think?
